Dr. Mather

Dr. Jonathan Mather graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2013 with a Doctorate of Optometry, obtaining his B.S. in Vision Science in 2010. He has been interested in eye care since childhood, wearing glasses since 3rd grade and contacts since middleschool. Dr. Mather is passionate about pediatric and diabetic eye care, personally affected by both issues. He has been a Type 1 Diabetic since childhood. Dr. Mather completed an internship in pediatrics and vision therapy as part of his optometric schooling. Professionally, he sees patients as young as 6 months old and does myopia (nearsighted) control to slow the rate of degeneration in kids through treatment. Dr. Mather manages lazy eyes (strabismus) and poor vision (amblyopia) in children and adults. He also fits contact lenses and treats multiple eye diseases, including monitoring diabetic eye health, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and dry eye disease. Dr. Mather is actively involved in national and local optometry advocacy, working with the Nevada Optometry Association as chair of the legislative committee. He educates lawmakers on eye-related issues, supports patient protection laws, and promotes doctor-patient relationships as the centerpiece of medical care. He works with both parties to accomplish these goals. 

Dr. Mather and his wife have lived in Carson City since 2013. They have three children ranging from preschool to elementary school ages. When he’s not in the office, Dr. Mather enjoys gardening, hand-tool woodworking, furniture making, reading, playing board games, building with legos, kayaking, and cycling. He is also a leader at his local church in Carson City. He speaks passable English, Spanish, and German.
